The Cats of the Cat Sanctuary

People often ask me how many cats we have at the sanctuary. The truth is, I stopped counting a long time ago. What I remember are not the numbers, but the cats themselves.

Each one has a story. Some arrived as tiny kittens abandoned in cardboard boxes. Some were rescued from markets, back alleys, and construction sites. Others simply appeared one day, hungry and looking for a safe place to call home.

Over the years, I have come to know them not as "cats", but as individuals. There was Marmee, a mother cat I found at a wet market with four newborn kittens. There was the old tomcat who ruled the sanctuary like a retired king. There was the shy one who took months before allowing anyone to touch her. And there were the countless others who passed through my life, each leaving behind a memory.

People sometimes think that running a cat sanctuary is about saving cats. Perhaps it is. But the cats have also shaped me in ways I never expected.

From them, I learned patience, trust, resilience, and sometimes simply the importance of sitting quietly and being present.

This collection is not really about cats. It is about the stories of lives that crossed my path and left their paw prints on my heart.

These are the cats of the sanctuary.
